The Sri Gayatri Group was formed by a group of
devotees in the year 2001with the sole objective of chanting the
Maha Gayatri Mantra for the purpose of achieving world peace, in
light of the world situation at the time. Over the years the Gayatri
Group has grown from strength to strength having conducted 8 Gayatri
Mahayagnas over the last 7 years. Apart from the annual MahaYagnas,
the Gayatri groups dedication to world peace extends to weekly
Gayatri Chantings and Gayatri Homams in the homes of devotees as
well as activities such as Lalita Sahasranaam Paarayan and Sri
Chakra Archana’s on special occasions such as New Years Day.
In 2005, The Sri Gayatri Group Organised the Ashwamedha Maha Yagna
for World Peace, the first of its kind to ever be held in Sydney.
The 3- Day Event was hailed as a success as not only did thousands
attend and actively participate over the three days but it also
became a common point of participation for combining the North and
South Indian Hindu Communities in Sydney. The festivities included
Deepa Yagna and Raas Garba on the evenings following the Yagna to
add to the joyous environment.
As the objective of such Mahayagnas is to achieve World Peace, each
of the Gayatri Yagnas are open for participation to all people
regardless of Caste, Creed and nation of origin, with the only
prerequisite being a pure hearted intention and prayer for peace.
All of the past Gayatri Yagna’s have been held in high regard by the
devoted mainly due to the chance for all members of the public to
participate in the Homam’s and other such sacred rituals such as the
Maha-abhishekam and chanting.
GAYATRI MANTRA - TURYA GAYATRI
Om
Bhur Bhuva Suvaha
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo yonah Prachodayat
Paro Rajase Savadom
The Gayatri
Mantra may be translated in many ways. One such translation is as
follows:
(Om)
Om (Dheemahi) We meditate (Bhargo) upon the spiritual
Effulgence (Varenyam Devasya) of THAT Adorable supreme Divine
Reality (Savitur) the Source (Bhur, Bhuva, Svaha) of
the physical, the Astral and the Heavenly Spheres of Existence.
(Tat) may THAT Supreme Divine Being (Prachodayat)
enlighten (Yo) which (Nah) our (Dhiyo)
Intellect (so that we may realise the Supreme Truth).
Then
‘Paro Rajase Savadom’. After meditating on the form of the
Supreme Truth, there will come out big effulgence, pure and
blissful, full of knowledge which is residing inside the heart. This
is the essence of all speech and Knowledge. This is the true Sakti.
This should be understood correctly by the intelligent.
‘Paro
Rajase Savadom’ turns Gayatri into the mantra that removes the
nine avaranas (navarna) and leads to the recognition of
TURYA
which is beyond the three states (waking state, dreaming state &
sleeping state )and represented by Silence.
These last 8 syllables are generally not written down and only
transmitted from Guru to disciple.
